Strategic Aim:
To deliver on the ground a suite of countryside recreation
facilities, geographically spread across Northern Ireland, resourced
and supported in a strategic way.
Long Distance Walking Routes
- Complete phase 2 of the Waymarked Ways to include 3
walking routes developed to phase 1 standards, this will result in II
Waymarked Ways.
- Agree with Environment and Heritage Service the re-launch of the Ulster
Way walking route including website, signage,
and promotional material.
-All approved long distance routes to be insured by CAAN
- Work with Newry and Mourne and Down District Councils to complete the
Mourne Way. This will be the twelth Waymarked Way.
Other Walking Initiatives
- To have accurate, up to date walking directory available
in several formats
- To have appropriate GIS system in place which can be used for product
assessment and product monitoring programme
Off Road Cycling
- Complete family cycling trails at Castle Archdale, Gosford
& Castlewellan.
- To have agreed a distribution strategy for the trail cards and have distributed
literature.
- Secure funding for Castleward off road cycling trail, complete and agree
macro and micro design and initiate trail construction.
- Gain agreement with landowners for the future development of an additional
2 off-road cycling sites and take these projects to a stage where they are
ready for implementation
- Development of a permanant downhill mountain biking venue at Magheramorne
Quarry
Canoeing
- The development of a 20km canoe trail on the River Blackwater,
developed to CANI approved standards with associated facilities.
- Funding to be secured for Stranford Lough, legal agreements to be put
in place and architect to be appointed
- Lower Bann Canoe Trail, secure necessary funding
- Lough Neagh Canoe Trail, secure necessary funding
- River Barrow Canoe Trail, gain commitment from Waterways Ireland, Heritage
Council and the Irish Canoe Union to the creation of Ireland's first Canoe Trail
Off Road Horse Riding -
Secure funding and have arrangements in place for the development of
60 km cross border off-road horse riding trail
- Development of an additional 2 off road horse riding sites and take these
projects to a stage where they are ready for implementation |
