Lough Neagh Partnership wins two prestigious ‘Waterway Renaissance’ Awards

Lough Neagh took the star prize at the BURA (British Urban Regeneration Association) Waterways Renaissance Awards at the Lowry Salford Quays, Manchester on 17th March 2010.
The Lough Neagh Regeneration Programme won the ‘Area Based Regeneration’ award and then went on to win the top award for ‘Outstanding Achievement’ for Waterways Renaissance. The prestigious awards ceremony has acknowledged the impact that Lough Neagh Partnership has had on the regeneration of the Lough Neagh Region.
The Lough Neagh Partnership have worked with stakeholders, councils and DARD, none of the success could have been achieved without the partnership approach to the regeneration of Lough Neagh, Gerry Darby, Manager of Lough Neagh Partnership spoke of the significance of the substantial European investment contributed by DARD (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development).
Jim Canning, Chairman of the Lough Neagh Partnership was delighted with the awards success saying “These two prestigious awards are recognition of the hard work, commitment and dedication of the Lough Neagh Partnership, and the substantial changes that have occurred in regenerating our biggest natural water resource.”
Lough Neagh has for long been the forgotten lake of the UK and Ireland, winning this award demonstrates the true potential of this wonderful resource and will act as a platform for the future development of Lough Neagh as a visitor destination.
